About the event

About the event

Fifty years ago, the identification of bees required fluency in morphological terminology. You would need to recognize and evaluate the propodeal carinae, ochraceous coloration, or a rugolose surface texture. In recent years, and with the rise of citizen science, there are better tools, written and illustrated with non-specialists in mind. But to navigate most keys still requires bee-specific terminology and a working knowledge of how to apply terms across taxa. So we have developed the Glossary of terms that describe bees; a guide for the non-taxonomist. We will share the story of why we’ve built this, who might benefit, and how you can contribute. This will be the debut of Amanda’s illustrations, which anchor the glossary.
